OK... so it's not a huuuuuuge deal, but I'm pretty stoked... As I mentioned a while back in another journal entry, I had entered a local photo contest. This was the photograph that I chose to enter in the event that used "The Way We Worked" as a theme... :thumb257588523: Today I received a phone call from a representative of the Public Library, which hosted the contest... and was informed that my photograph had been awarded 3rd place... (out of roughly 80 entries) and that I could expect my check in the mail come the middle of February! Yeah, it's not that big a deal... but... this was the first photo contest that I've ever entered... and

As you might guess from the title, and the lack of recent photographs; I've had a difficult time getting out to shoot. When I do have the time, the weather does not cooperate and when the weather is nice, well... work comes first. Adding to the frustration is that I live about two blocks from the tracks and work about two blocks on the other side of the tracks. I can hear the sounds as the trains pass by both places, and they haunt me and tease me. The only thing that keeps me hopeful is that I know once the weather clears, I can shoot to my hearts content on my days and hours off work. And when winter turns to spring and spring gives way to

After a week's illness and then the holidays, I got back out to the tracks with camera in hand today and clicked off the first pictures and videos of the year. I'm also looking to shoot some portraits later in the week for a friend and her family. I'm not sure which I'm more excited about. When I bought this camera back over the summer, I hoped to get some side work shooting portraits and maybe some senior pictures. However as I have become more and more excited with my railroad photography, I am really less and less interested in shooting people. Also at a friends request I entered my first photo contest.
